Volunteer Position Descriptions

The following is a brief description of the volunteer positions available at Spruce Meadows.

Ground Crew
Hitching Ring Coordinates competitors from Warm-up Ring to competitive ring. Communicates with the Gateman and Recorder.
Gateman Supervises the gate allowing competitors to enter the ring. Communicates with the Hitching Ring.
Flagman Acts as back-up to the electronic eye at the start and/or finish line. The flagman holds a flag indicating when a horse has crossed the start/finish line.
Ring Master Coordinates all activities in the ring and supervises all workers in the ring.
Parades and Special Features Assists with parades or special entertainment guests in the ring or around the property.
Timing
Announcer Announces upcoming competitors and assists in presentations. Experience in announcing an asset.
Recorder Liason between Judges Booth and Hitching Ring. Announces upcoming riders to everyone in Judges Booth and keeps track of results.
Hand Timer Keeps time with hand-held stop watch and acts as back-up to electronic timing equipment.
Scoreboard Operates scoreboard in ring from computer system.
Longines/Electronic Timing Equipment Operates Longines Timing Equipment and inputs faults for official timing.
Hosting & Hospitality
Bar Hostess Assist in Volunteer, Rider and VIP Lounge serving beverages.
Kitchen Hostess Assist in preparing meals to be sent to rings for volunteers.
Presentations Assist in ribbon presentations after competitions are complete.
Infomation Booth Assist in giving information to visitors at Spruce Meadows. Knowledge of Spruce Meadows an asset.
Tour Guide Assist in giving tours of Spruce Meadows to guests and sponsors. Knowledge of Spruce Meadows an asset.
Sponsor Hosting Assist sponsor in Hosting Venues with competition-related activities.
