MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
-
I have been a line vet (judging
veterinarian) at national and international
competitions, as well as a foreign veterinary
delegate at international competition.
-
Canada West Team Veterinarian,
Pan American Games 2003 (Team bronze medal),
-
Team Canada Veterinarian at the
World Endurance Championships in Dubai, 2005 (Team
finished 4th).
TID BITS
-
James graduated from the
University of Cambridge (UK, 1998) and completed an
internship in Large Animal Medicine at the
University of Saskatchewan before working in a mixed
animal practice in Tasmania, Australia.
-
He started endurance vetting
there and returned to Saskatchewan to take a
combined Masters degree and do two residencies at
the University of Saskatchewan (2000-2005).
-
The role of the team
veterinarian is to look after the welfare of the
horses during competition and ensure that, in the
heat of competition, the welfare of the horse is not
lost in the drive for success.
-
It is also our role to tend to
the horses during the pit stops and make sure that
the horses are presented to the judging
veterinarians in the best possible condition.
-
100 miles at this speed is truly
breathtaking to see. These horses are incredible
athletes.
