  • “I started riding at 8 years of age and used to hire a horse by the day. I never got my first horse until after I was married. In the late 70s I went to local shows and did fun stuff.”

  • She got involved with the sport of Endurance in 1996.

  • Ruth’s husband, Ken, despite an avid interest in golf, “has been a really good sport, helping me out whenever he can. He was one of my grooms at the Mt. Adams ride and gives me lots of encouragement and support.”

  • “I was doing endurance-type things: foxhunting, which I enjoyed immensely; Ontario cross-country jumpers, which is like the cross-country phase of a 3-day event; a little showjumping; and long rides.

  • “I knit to relax and take my knitting to the competitions. I knit pre-ride to settle my nerves.”

  • She currently owns two horses.
