TEAM INFORMATION

  • “Eleven people signed up as team candidates for WEG. The team was selected by a committee of five people: David Ballard, Alan Chesler, Laura Balisky, Mark Samuel and me.

  • “The best 5 horse/rider combinations would represent Canada. One will be named the Reserve and the other four will comprise the team. We will travel to Europe the first week in August and do one show in Holland prior to WEG.

  • If all the stars align, we should be the most competitive we’ve been in 15 years.”

  • Geoff Vernon, DVM, of Calgary has been named as the Team Veterinarian.

  • “I represented Canada at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics, 2 Pan American Games and 23 Nations’ Cups and I’ve won 29 Grand Prix,” said Torchy. His experience is extensive. “I filled in as Chef for Tommy Gayford in the early 90s and, from 1996 to 2000 I was Chef and Head of the High Performance Committee (of Equine Canada). From December of 2004 until now I have been the Chair (of the High Performance Committee) and the Chef d’Équipe, Jumping.”
