2012 "Masters" Tournament

The calendar simply would not be complete without the “Masters” Tournament at Spruce Meadows.  Held from September 5th through to the 9th, this exciting tournament features the best in sport, exciting entertainment, delicious international-themed fare, unique shopping, special awards, the thrilling TELUS Battle of the Breeds and much more!

Carrying on the excitement of the Olympics in London, Spruce Meadows has welcomed show jumping’s most elite athletes for a thrilling week of competition.  The competitions are varied, and truly test the scope and ability of both horse and  rider.  Competitions kick off on the All Canada, Meadows on the Green and International Rings on Wednesday, September 5th, and continue through the week.

The Mercedes-Benz Evening of the Horse on Friday, September 7th is always a fan-favourite, with the Encana Cup, ATCO Electric Circuit Six Bar, special performances, and a grand finale of beautiful fireworks, choreographed to live music played by the Band of the Grenadier Guards, (specially flown in from London!).  The competition continues with Holland Day and the Suncor Winning Round, and BMO Nations’ Cup on Saturday, followed by the British Day TELUS Cup, and the always thrilling Million Dollar CN International on Sunday.  Sunday will also include a special Tribute to Hickstead, on the International Ring at 11:00 am.

A wonderful compliment to the show jumping competitions, is a week full of entertainment.  The majestic Celle Stallions, presented by Siemens, will perform their musical dressage patterns daily in the International Ring.  Few performances of these beautiful horses are given outside of Europe, so this is a truly special treat for visitors to Spruce Meadows.  The Band of the Grenadier Guards will also be performing throughout the week.  This wonderful band has been filling the streets of London with music and colour for over three centuries – a truly historic sound and sight.

There will also be plenty of activities for the young ones in your life to enjoy.  Pony Rides, located in the Riding Hall, and Wagon Rides, will be held daily and are free of charge.  The Spruce Meadows Prairie Dogs, presented by Re/Max, will also be entertaining crowds daily, with their agility, speed and incredible skill – a must-see for all dog lovers!

If you are looking for unique shopping opportunities, we have you covered!  The Equi-Fair, North America’s most comprehensive celebration of the horse, features the most unique equine art, wares and the best exhibitors in the equine world.  Held in conjunction with Equi-Fair, Lifestyle and the Marketplace bring over 100 non-equine exhibitors  - we truly have something for every shopper!

The TELUS Battle of the Breeds truly brings a unique flare to the “Masters” Tournament.  Ten different breeds of horses, from Shetlands to Arabians, will vie to be the most versatile breed of all.  With unique competitions in trail riding, compulsory skills and even barrel racing, this is a thrilling week of competitions, which tests the skills of each breed.

Daily admission for the “Masters” Tournament is $5 per person, with children and seniors free.  If you are unable to join us in person, please visit CBC Sports or our live-streaming page for full coverage of the competitions.
