This position primarily supports the operation of world-class Equestrian competitions. We operate systems that provide timing, scoring and results to officials, athletes, and the public. Spruce Meadows is also the home of the Cavalry Football Club. This position provides support to soccer operations as needed.


RESPONSIBILITIES (included, but are not limited to)

The focus of this position is the smooth operation of our Equestrian competitions. This team is responsible for:

  • The set-up, take down and operation of timing equipment for the sport of show jumping. Equipment is used to time and score rounds of top-level international jumping events 
  • Basic troubleshooting of timing equipment and scoreboards 
  • Assist the electronics and technology team with set-up, troubleshooting, and operation of other computer and electronics systems, depending on ability and experience.

Spruce Meadows is a large site, with many programs and events occurring. We are also presently renovating and modernizing venues and facilities throughout the year. This position will be asked to assist the IT and Technology team in ways that may include:

  • Light to medium manual labour: lifting, moving of equipment, cleaning.
  • Installation or termination of communication cabling, indoors or outdoors.
  • Assisting non-technical users with office equipment
  • Assisting with the installation, setup or operation of Audio-Visual Equipment 

Spruce Meadows is the home of the Cavalry Football Club of the Canadian Premier League. You may be asked to assist in the operation of home games. 

Throughout all activities, successful applications must:

  • Communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Possess good oral English skills. As an international venue, additional languages are an asset (particularly French and Spanish). The working language for this team is English.
  • Always positively represent Spruce Meadows and interact appropriately if approached by a guest on the grounds. Customer service to our on-site guests is of paramount importance.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Reliable transportation to and from work. There is no public transportation to Spruce Meadows.
  • Computer skills as a user, as timing and scoring is computer-based.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to problem solve and exhibit conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work most weekends and some evenings during the tournament schedule.
  • Ability to adapt quickly when in a fast-paced environment.

 

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Class 5 Driver’s License and a safe driving record.
  • Familiarity with other electronics, such as audio, video, and networking equipment.
  • Current certificate in Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
  • Ability to speak a second language fluently


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Work is in a fast-paced work environment. Successful applicants must be willing to work in a variety of different settings and must work well in both team and individual scenarios. The Spruce Meadows venue operates in all weather conditions, from early morning into evening. Weekend work will be required on most weekend days during the term of employment.

DETAILS OF “SEASONAL” EMPLOYMENT

This is a full-time position, that is seasonal for our Tournament season. During your employment, you will work full-time, scheduled for 40-44 hours per week. We pay overtime in accordance with Alberta legislation.

This position is offered at $18.00 to $21.00 per hour, depending on experience, skillset and committed availability. 

Events are held on weekends; therefore, you must be available to work weekends and some evenings. Shifts will fluctuate to coincide with the Spruce Meadows Tournament Season.


SCHEDULING SPECIFICS

  • Training will take place on specific days in April, with full-time planned to start May 1.
  • Employment is not guaranteed between July 8 and August 25. However, those who are successful contributors during the spring/early summer series may be asked to continue through the Summer.
  • First preference is given to candidates who are available for all tournament dates.

Successful candidates may also be offered part-time casual work at other points in the year.
