It seems the Irish are not to be messed with this season at Spruce Meadows. After multiple strong showings last week to kick off the FEI tournaments at Spruce Meadows including a podium sweep, they had repeat performances today in the Recon Metal Cup 1.55m. Darragh Kenny (IRL) and Eddy Blue took top spot today against a strong field of 40 other athletes posting the fastest clear round in the jump off with a time of 40.07s.
“It was a great class. Very fast jump off. I absolutely love jumping in this ring. The footing is incredible. You know, I it's always been a lucky ring for me, actually, I've always had good success in it. And, my horse was brilliant. He's in super form at the moment. He had a really uncharacteristic result in the Grand Prix last week, but, he bounced back and jumps super today, and I expect a good result on Saturday.” - Darragh Kenny (IRL) on Eddy Blue’s performance in the Recon Metal Cup and his expectations for Saturday’s RBC Grand Prix of Canada, presented by Rolex.
There was less than two-tenths of a second from first to third with David O’Brian (IRL) and Conor Swail (IRL) posting clear rides with times of 40.15s and 40.23s respectively. The track was designed by FEI Course Designer Olaf Petersen Jr. (GER)
World #15 ranked rider, Conor Swail (IRL) topped the leaderboard in the Francis Family 1.50m competition to start day two of the 'National', presented by Rolex. Aboard the 9 year-old stallion Clonterm Obolensky (who's been in Swail's hands since May 2025), the pair posted the fastest clear ride of the jump off with a time of 42.48s. Swail also finished in sixth aboard One Edition
