The RBC Capital Markets Cup 1.50m capped off our Friday of the ‘National’ CSI5*, presented by Rolex - and the Irish were at it again.
This time it was Jordan Coyle (IRL) riding For Gold who bested the rest of them in a five-horse jump off. Coyle had a key spot, going last in the jump off, giving him the opportunity to giving him the opportunity to execute his strategy to perfection. For Gold gave it his all and crossed the finish line clear with a time of 35.85s to seal another victory for Ireland.
Conor Swail (IRL) proved yet again why he’s ranked 15th in the world with a victory in the ATCO Cup 1.50m. Aboard the chestnut mare, One Edition, the pair posted a the fastest clear ride in the jump off with a time of 34.38s. Swail also tied for third in the competition aboard Clonterm Obolensky with fellow Irishman Darragh Kenny and Zero K.
“One of the interesting things about, you know, the summer season at Spruce Meadows is that you can bring young horses here and get some time with them in a number of different rings. Fifteen horse/rider combinations posted clear rides in round one of competition and advanced to the jump off. Great Britain’s Matthew Sampson picked up his first victory of the tournament aboard the grey mare, One Whisper. The pair posted the fastest clear ride in the jump off of 36.83s. Sampson also picked up fourth with Un Secreto Z.
A big field of competitors (56 entries) for the AltaGas Cup 1.45m on the International Ring this morning. The top 30 placed athletes from this competition qualified for Sunday’s ATCO CSI2*, Grand Prix 1.45m.
